Boliden Tara Mines won silver representing Ireland at the 2016 International Mines Rescue Competition (IMRC) last week in Sudbury, Canada
Thirteen countries, comprising 28 teams, were represented at the event, competing in a number of events including an underground scenario, fire-fighting and first aid.
This was the first time that an Irish team participated in the competition and the Tara Mines team were awarded a silver medal in the category of ‘Best Overall Team’.
Canada’s Kirkland Lake Gold won gold in the category and bronze was awarded to Poland’s White Eagles.
Siobhan Tinnelly of the Irish Mining & Quarrying Society (IMQS) noted:
“An incredible performance by all accounts and a reflection of the dedication, professionalism and skill of all involved in Mine Rescue Training in Ireland and the commitment of the Irish Mine Rescue Committee to this specialist area of Health and Safety training in the extractive industry.”
