A delegation from China led by Mr. Chen Lei, Minister for Water Resources, was hosted by Minister of State Paudie Coffey at the Department of Environment, Community & Local Government (DECLG) on 8th May at the Customs House in Dublin.
Presentations were made to the Chinese delegation by DCELG, Irish Water, the Environmental Protection Agency and Enterprise Ireland. Also present were several research and industry groups including UCD, NUIG, TCD, Waterford Institute of Technology, Cork Institute of Technology, Micro Gen and Geoscience Ireland, who met Minister Lei and his colleagues.
While the scale of planned investment in Chinese water services is immense – €270Bn in the near future – Irish technology providers are well placed to avail of niche opportunities in this market. Chinese requirements include flood relief, erosion control. Waste water treatment and water reuse. Enterprise Ireland has two offices in China, while the EPA funds €20M of R&D in the water sector.
