Sean Finlay, Director of Business Development for Geoscience Ireland (GI) has been appointed Chair of the Africa Business Forum of the Irish Exporters Association (IEA). He succeeds Tim Morgan of Minelab Metal Detectors.
Since 2011, The Irish Exporters Association (IEA) African Trade Strategy has focused on investment promotion, analysis and institutional support for trade in services, business support services and institutions, public-private sector networking for Irish and African businesses, e-commerce, trade finance, trade promotion, market analysis and development.
Each year, IEA holds several sector-specific roundtable events focusing on Food & Drink; Life Sciences; ICT; and Energy & Engineering. Many of Ireland’s Ambassadors and Enterprise Ireland staff have participated in these events.
IEA also welcomed a range of delegations from Africa and supported bi-lateral events with the embassies of Nigeria and South Africa.
The Irish Exporters Association is the largest association of its kind in Ireland committed to the needs of Exporters and guiding them through their export journey. Members are welcome to join at any stage along the exporting journey from pre exporters to exporters. IEA provides three main services to its members: Representing the needs of members through the development of policy, lobbying, and direct intervention with government on the issues that matter most. Educating on matters relating to export compliance, and providing practical knowledge on Ireland’s various export markets. Connecting members into new markets and to other exporting companies in Ireland. See www.irishexporters.ie
Commenting on the appointment, Koen Verbruggen, Director of the Geological Survey of Ireland and Chair of the Geoscience Ireland Steering Committee, said;
“ Geoscience Ireland and its members have benefited from membership of the IEA, which provides services and contacts closely linked to export generation assistance from Enterprise Ireland and the Department of Foreign Affiars and Trade. As Africa is a significant focus for GI members, the appointement of Sean Finlay as Chair of IEA’s Africa Business Forum is timely and welcome. GI members are active in providing civil and mining infrastructure development in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania,Ethiopia, Mozamqique, Malawi, Lesotho and Zambia. Sean’s own experience includes mining projects in Ghana and Mali.”
