A 20 person delegation from the Turkish Ministry of Environment paid a 5 day visit to Ireland from 25th to 29th August. The visit was part of a Capacity Building Contract being delivered to the Ministry in relation to the implementation of the SVESO II Directive. The Contract is being led by AWN, an Irish environmental consultancy specialising in Risk Assessment, Air Quality and Hydrogeology.
As part of AWN’s remit, a high level delegation from the Turkish Ministry visited chemical and hydrocarbon facilities at several Irish ports and met Health & Safety personnel from various Fire Services and senior officials from the Department of the Environment.
On 29th August, the Geological Survey of Ireland, Geoscience Ireland and Enterprise Ireland hosted a Seminar on Landslide Susceptibility, Groundwater Protection and Risk Assessment of Historic Mine Sites. Geoscience Ireland presented an outline of projects undertaken by its members AWN, JB Barry and APEX in Turkey. (see www.geoscience.ie).
Welcoming the delegation, Peter Jackson of Enterprise Ireland noted that EI opened an office in Istanbul earlier in 2014 and planned a Trade Mission to Turkey in October this year, to be led by Minister for Innovation Gerard Nash TD.
