The 5th annual cluster matchmaking conference was held in Stuttgart last week. Topics, centred on “brining cluster collaboration to the next level”, included:
The key focus is innovation whereby new knowledge gained acts as the access mechanism to new international markets. Over 175 clusters from 27 countries partook in ‘matchmaking’ meetings whereby cluster managers exchanged overviews of their respective activities and objectives while exploring potential areas of collaboration with other clusters. In what was a week of celebration for the wider county of Galway on the back of their wins (Senior and Minors) in the All Ireland Hurling Finals, Pavement Management Services (PMS) joined in by marking two significant items of their own. On Friday the 8th of September, GI Member PMS had a day of celebration marking both their 25th year in business and the opening of their new custom built facility in Raheen Industrial Estate in Athenry County Galway. A survey of the 33 Member Companies comprising the Geoscience Ireland (GI) business cluster has shown that 226 net new jobs were created in the first six months of 2017 – this now brings total employment to over 3,400. The total turnover of the Members in 2016 exceeded €830m. Read more
Speaking during a Trade Mission in Toronto yesterday, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar outlined plans for the doubling of Ireland’s Global Footprint by 2025. This means new and augmented diplomatic missions and as well as significantly increased resources for investment, tourism, cultural and food agencies overseas. Read more

The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the European Union (EU) and Canada came into force on the 1st of July 2017. The effect of CETA’s commencement is quite stark as it has effectively abolished 98% of the tariffs on trade between the EU and Canada. Read more

The French Geoscience cluster, Pole Avenia, held its Annual B2B Event & Conference in Pau last week. Over 200 delegates attended including delegations from Iran, Ireland and the USA.
