Two members of Geoscience Ireland (GI) gave presentations at a recent well attended Geotechnical Engineering seminar in Dublin. Engineers Ireland hosted the event on the 24th of April.
Speakers included Dr Chris Menkiti of Geotechnical Consulting Group (GCG) UK, Dr David Gill, Associate Director, AGL Consulting, Dr Paul Doherty; Gavin and Doherty Geosolutions (GDG), John Donohoe; Powergen, Bord na Móna and John O’Connor; Byrne Looby Partners (BLP).
GI member Paul Doherty spoke on the challenges for shallow foundations supporting wind turbines in cut away bogs. The project is currently being completed by Bord na Mona (GI member Tobin Consulting Engineers provided planning and EIS advice for this project).
GI member John O’Connor spoke on the Strategic Enhancement Tunnelling Programme (STEP) in Abu Dhabi. This project is currently being undertaken by Abu Dhabi municipality. It is 43 km of small diameter tunnels and 300 access shafts.
