The well-attended 5th Africa Ireland Economic Forum (AIEF) was opened by Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mary Mitchell 0’Connor T.D., in Dublin’s Convention Centre on 17th June.
Speakers included Charles Boamah, Vice President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) whose presentation suggested that Ireland’s plans to join the AfDB are at an advanced stage.
Geoscience Ireland (GI) Panellists included Dr Deirdre Lewis of SLR and Michel Davitt of Nicholas O’Dwyer Consulting Engineers. Dr Lewis outlined the importance of social components of infrastructure development, in particular the role of women’s education in developing economies. Michel Davitt addressed the importance of local partnerships and capacity building in replacing stressed infrastructure for Africa.
The Plenary Session was moderated by Minister of State for International Development Joe McHugh T.D.
Other panellists included Dr Eddie O Connor of Mainstream Energy; Ronan MacNioclais of PWC; Brendan Flood of Enterprise Ireland , Sarah Dimson of USAID Power Africa; Chris Kiptoo of the Tanzanian Ministry of Industry and Lourenco Sambo of Mozambique Investment Promotion.
