Geoscience Ireland Welcomes Award for Irish Geoscientist Kevin Cullen (Director, Verde Environmental Consultants)
The Institute of Geologists of Ireland (IGI) recently announced that EurGeol Kevin Cullen PGeo is the 2015 recipient of the IGI Medal of Honour.
Kevin received his B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in geology from University College Dublin in 1971 and obtained a Master’s degree in Hydrogeology from Birmingham University in 1978. He has practiced as a professional geologist in Ireland since 1971, firstly in mineral exploration and subsequently in hydrogeology and waste management. Kevin founded the consulting practice of K. T. Cullen & Co. Ltd in 1979 which was subsequently acquired by White Young Green plc (WYG) in 2001. He remained with WYG as managing director of the Irish Environmental Unit until 2004. Since 2004 Kevin has been self-employed, consulting in the area of hydrogeology and environmental geology.
Kevin’s wide range of hydrogeological experience includes dewatering of mines and quarries; the development of groundwater for industrial, mineral water, the agri-industry, electronic and leisure industries; the hydrogeological assessment of landfill sites; expert witness at oral hearings and court cases; and identification and development of public groundwater supplies. Throughout his career he has contributed to many planning applications and Environmental Impact Statements.
Commenting on the proposed IGI Award, Sean Finlay of Geoscience Ireland said;
“Kevin Cullen is an outstanding geoscientist whose work has placed hydrogeology at the center of good planning and environmental practice in Ireland and more recently, in international markets. I welcome the recognition by IGI of Kevin’s continuing contribution and in particular his support for Geoscience Ireland.”
