PwC, in association with Business Ireland Africa (BIA), hosted a breakfast briefing focussing on ‘Doing Business in Africa for Irish Businesses’ this morning, Thursday, Sept. 15th. Sean Finlay, Business Development Director of Geoscience Ireland (GI), facilitated speaker presentations and a panel discussion comprising Irish exporter and PwC insights.
Andrew Woods, Chair BIA, opened the forum by delivering an overview of Ireland’s footprint in Africa and the network supports available from BIA to Irish exporters. Sean Finlay proceeded to introduce the three speakers who spoke to their experiences of doing business in Africa:
- Claudia Saumell, Bord Bia Africa Manager – Claudia discussed Bord Bia’s experiences of linking Irish food, drink and horticulture suppliers to various African markets and trade blocs, and Bord Bia’s approach to segmenting the continent in terms of economies, demographics, political and trade barriers.
- Kealan Delaney, CEO Delmec Engineering – Kealan provided an overview of Delmec’s approach to market and growth since first entering the Ghanian market in 2009; Delmec now has 5 offices across East and West Africa.
- Chika Chukwujekwu, Africa Business Group Lead, PwC UK – Chika discussed the macroeconomic environment and mega-trends in the different African regions.
Sean Finlay proceeded to moderate a panel discussion between the speakers taking a wide array of questions from the floor.
