Environment/ Water Resources/ Social
Services (Technical Disciplines)
ERM was commissioned to undertake an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for a 35MT pa Iron Ore mine in Sierra Leone.
ERM’s scope included a full suite of complex baseline studies on biodiversity, cultural heritage, noise, air quality, hydrogeology and socio-economics in an isolated West African environment.
Impact assessment and preparation of mitigation measures were also undertaken; as was the preparation of management plans.
Through this process, ERM has positively influenced the design process for the next phases by providing input which has resulted in a large number of design modifications in areas including haul road alignment revision, bridge crossing specification, rock dump location, tailings concept revision, rail alignment, exploration management and haul route specification.
The ESIA Management and Coordination Team was based in ERM’s Dublin office and who also lead on the preparation of EHS Management Plans.
