Assessment of CO2 Storage Potential in the Southern Baltic Sea Region
Establish the theoretical CO2 storage capacity within sedimentary rocks in the southern Baltic Sea Region.
Project Title
Assessment of CO2 Storage Potential in the Southern Baltic Sea Region
Location
Southern Baltic Sea
Client
VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and ELFORSK AB
Business Sectors

Services (Technical Disciplines)
SLR gathered all publicly available geological data covering all the jurisdictions of the Baltic Sea ; Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Poland and Russia, organised it in GIS for a shared FTP site. Basins and geological structures were being ranked for CO2 storage suitability. Potential storage locations were identified and static reservoir models developed.
Project Objectives/Outcomes
The objective was to establish the theoretical CO2 storage capacity within sedimentary rocks in the southern Baltic Sea
Region.
Our Role
Data gathering, integration into GIS, and geological interpretation. Reservoir modelling; capacity calculations hydrodynamic modelling.
