Blanchardstown Regional Drainage Scheme | ByrneLooby

June 2, 2021/in Water Resources

Project Title:

Blanchardstown Regional Drainage Scheme | ByrneLooby

Location:

Dublin, Ireland

Client:

Irish Water

Date:

June 2015 – Dec 2022

Business Sectors:

Water engineering – Drainage Networks, Wastewater

Services (Technical Disciplines):

Consulting engineers and designers, project management, Tender support, construction supervision

Project Objectives/ Outcomes:

Irish Water, working in partnership with Fingal County Council allocated an investment fund of approximately €88 million to upgrade a strategically important sewer network with a new scheme called the Blanchardstown Regional Drainage Scheme. Located beside the M50 motorway within Tolka Valley Park this project represents a major capital investment and will involve the upgrade of the existing sewer network currently serving Blanchardstown and the surrounding catchment areas. This infrastructure will expand the capacity of the wastewater network and will facilitate existing and future residential and commercial development. It will also reduce the frequency and volume of untreated wastewater overflows from the wastewater network to the River Tolka.

Our Role:

The Water Division at ByrneLooby Headquarters in Dublin was appointed by Irish Water as consulting engineers and designers for the project. ByrneLooby managed the planning stages of the project on behalf of Irish Water, helping to expedite planning permission, formulating the contract documents, leading the procurement and design & build contract, evaluating tenders, and supervising the construction and commissioning on site.

ByrneLooby’s scope of work included:

  • 2km of pipeline installed using trenchless tunnelling techniques with the Tolka Valley Park Pumping Station
  • An underground stormwater management facility with capacity of approximately 30,000m³ to manage potential flood and stormwaters
  • A below-ground pumping station with above-ground control room with remote monitoring of levels along the network
  • A control building to house electrical switchgear, control equipment, an odour control unit, generator room and ESB sub-station and a pumping station
