Bowen Basin Environmental Impact Statement

February 2, 2015/in Water Resources

On behalf of the client, Sorhill undertook the hydrogeological technical peer review of the consultants undertaking the work for the initial groundwater component of the Bowen Basin EIS.

Project Title

Bowen Basin Environmental Impact Statement

Location

Queensland

Country

Australia

Client

Arrow Energy

Business Sectors

Coal Seam Gas (CSG)

Services (Technical Disciplines)

On behalf of the client, Sorhill undertook the hydrogeological technical peer review of the consultants undertaking the work for the initial groundwater component of the Bowen Basin EIS then acted as independent technical peer reviewer for the consultant chosen to undertake the supplementary EIS groundwater studies.

On behalf of the client, Sorhill was asked to undertake a complete technical peer review of the initial Bowen Basin EIS. Sorhill was provided with the complete documentation at the time it was released to the Australian Regulators and asked to provide a “Black Hat” review within two weeks. Sorhill undertook the challenge on-time and on-budget and had sufficient resources on hand to provide an internal and independent review of the groundwater component initially guided by Sorhill’s groundwater team in Australia.

Project Objectives/Outcomes

Sorhill provided significant input to the groundwater component to the extent that the team was praised by the client for providing a “positive direction” to the initial EIS groundwater work which enabled them to achieve approval with minimal difficulty.

In providing the “Black Hat” review of the overall documentation for the initial EIS, Sorhill was able to raise a number of issues and conflicts within the documentation for the Client preparing them for questions and scrutiny during the initial public consultation phase. This led to a highly successful and well-focused supplementary EIS process leading to project approval.

Our Role

Independent Technical Peer Review
