Project Objectives

Due diligence environmental audits of 10 quarry sites and chemical manufacturing sites, in Turkey and Ukraine.

Our Role

Geoscience Ireland undertook due diligence audits on 10 quarry sites and manufacturing facilities across Turkey. Audits covered air, noise, water, waste and ecological impacts, an examination of all licence and permit files, planning permissions and environmetal licensing and compliance records. All reports were then compiled and prepared, and submitted to the EU Commission Ecolabel Audit team.

 An assessment of the Water Footprint, and the embedded water per unit of product manufactured, and an assessment of the energy and carbon use, and the embedded carbon tonnage per unit product manufactured, was also undertaken and submitted. The Ecolabel was awarded in early 2012, following approval by the EU Commission.
