Project Objectives

Improvements Kakumiro Kagadi Road Project
Rehabilitation and upgrading of the 74km Kakumiro-Kagadi Road; widening of the existing carriageway to Class C standard and the construction of new pavement layers (sub-base and gravel wearing course)

Mubende Kakumiro Road Project
The project was a follow-on from the Kakumiro Kagadi Road project and involved the rehabilitation and upgrading of the 30km long road from Mubende to Kakumiro. The works involved the widening of the existing carriageway to Class C standard and the construction of new pavement layers (sub-base and wearing course, both granular and DBSD)

The Works were implemented by direct Plant and Labour Contracts with close consultation with the International Labour Organisation and Local Government Agencies and NGOs. Post project assessment by the OECD (DAC Committee) has confirmed that project objectives, in terms of benefits to the region, are being achieved and there has been a significant increase in general commercial activity in the area served by the road.
