Saudi Electricity Company (SECO) is engaged in generating and distributing electricity power supply in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. BLP were involved in a major D&B project undertaken by SECO. The project included the extension to the Makkah power station fuel storage facility.
BLP prepared the design of a foundation for the tanks and a number of other structural elements. The two proposed tanks for the storage of distillate fuel at the Makkah Power plant were 29m in diameter and 17m high which will be filled to 15.5m, with a capacity of 10,000m3. The foundation comprised of a reinforced concrete ring beam enclosing a compacted stone formation.
BLP also provided a full package of instrumentation and control, mechanical, electrical and civil for the integration of three additional 10,000m3 storage tanks, which are connected into the existing system within the plant.
