Project Objectives/ Outcomes
To review, provide training and make recommendations at three narrow vein zinc mines at the Zawar mine complex. All three mines have narrow zinc bearing veins (less than 3m wide) and are using a combination of old drilling equipment and some modern drill rigs. Mining practices in some cases required modernization.
The project included a total of 32 days onsite review and training by both an LTMS Engineer and Operational Trainer at each of the three mines (Balaria, Baroi and Mochia).
The objective was to provide a gap analysis between current practice and best practice and to start a training programme, based on the findings of the review. The programme was very successful, with very good engagement from management, engineers and operators. A full range of recommendations, including planning, drilling, blast design, blasting and follow-up assessment were made. The project has been followed up with a new training programme for Narrow Vein Mining drill rig operators, which started in August 2018.
Our Role
LTMS has been working with Hindustan Zinc Limited since 2016 on a variety of technical and training programmes, at all eight of their mines.
Narrow Vein Mining was identified as an area where losses were occurring and dilution, grade control and other problems were having an adverse effect on production and costs.
