Our Role
Geoscience Ireland carried out technical, economic and financial analyses of the mining sector through field research and stakeholder consultation. Private and public sector roles in mining development and stimulation of local private initiative, including parastatal mining companies and third-level educational institutions, were reviewed.
Integrated measures to address identified incapacities were recommended by Geoscience Ireland, to streamline regulatory and promotional capacity, improvements in mine safety and environmental monitoring of the Ministry. Particular emphasis was placed on the role which Government could play in the facilitation and regulation of the small scale mining (SSM) sector.
Geoscience Ireland also assisted in drafting detailed guidelines for a new National Minerals Policy for Zimbabwe, focused on development of an internationally competitive mining investment centre.
