Brazil Mining Sector Webinar
Facilitated by the Irish Embassy and Enterprise Ireland in Brazil, six Geoscience Ireland (GI) companies presented at a Webinar on 18 March which also heard speakers from the Ministry of Geology, Mining & Mineral Transformation; the National Mining Agency and the Brazilian Geological Survey.
The mining sector accounts for 3.5% of Brazil’s GNP and is undergoing a rapid transformation in easing international investment, providing legal certainty, access to high quality geological data, social engagement and transparency and prevention of illegal operations. Brazil has a rich minerals endowment which must be developed in a sustainable manner.
GI companies active in Brazil are LTMS, Golder, ERM, Mincon plc, SLR and TQS Integration whose projects range from due diligence, feasibility studies, mine development, operation and closure, water management, drilling products and data management. Clients include several of the world’s largest major mining companies.
Commenting on the Seminar, Sean Finlay of GI said: “The Ministry and the National Mining Agency in Brazil are determined to ensure adherence to best international safety, environmental and operational practices for the sector. GI companies are pleased to be part of the rapid transformation of the industry in Brazil .”
