Dr Zili Li joins Geoscience Ireland Panel of Experts
Dr. Zili Li, a Lecturer in Geotechnics at University College Cork, has joined the Geoscience Ireland (GI) Panel of Independent Experts . Zili is a graduate from Tongi University in China and was awarded a Doctorate by the University of Cambridge for his work on monitoring of underground tunnels in London.
He is currently a leading member of an European Programme on Underground Built Heritage as catalyser for Community Valorization. This European Programme aims to encourage knowledge exchange of underground heritage conservation & redevelopment across Europe and beyond. See here for more information on the programme.
Zili’s interests include:
- Valorising and redeveloping underground built heritage
- Leaning of Underground Built Heritage Redevelopment from Europe and worldwide
- Decommissioned underground sites in Ireland, for example, disused quarries, mines and tunnels, as ‘living labs’ for Underground Built Heritage Valorisation in a novel multi-disciplinary platform, including archaeology, geotechnics, history, urban planning, cultural anthropology, economics, architecture and cultural tourism.
