The Earth Observation for the mining of Raw materials (EO4RM) project is nearing completion. Dutch research institute Deltares is the project coordinator.
Geoscience Ireland (GI) member Lisheen Mining & Technical Services participated in the project alongside the European Space Agency. GI and Geological Survey Ireland served on the Project Steering Committee.
Welcoming the results of the project, GI’s Sean Finlay commented
“Satellite remote sensing has a crucial role to play in the minerals cycle, from exploration, discovery, mining , to closure and rehabilitation. Ensuring sustainable supplies of critical raw materials is central European Union policy and earth observation technology is an integral part of that policy.”
