Geoscience Ireland Members QME & LTMS Collaborate on Egyptian Mining Project
QME, a contract mining company based in Navan, Co. Meath and LTMS, a training and mine engineering consultancy based in Co. Monaghan, are successfully collaborating in delivering training, operation and maintenance services to Centamin’s Sukari Mine in Egypt. Three teams comprising over 50 skilled personnel are involved on a rotating shift basis.
Mostly resourced by Irish personnel from the Tara, Lisheen and Galmoy mines, and also directly from QME and LTMS internal teams, the workforce is supplemented by some South African, Canadian and Finnish staff.
The project highlights Ireland as a high quality mining jurisdiction as previously identified by the Fraser Institute which ranks Ireland as a top 10 jurisdiction. Many of the team members had their initial training at Irish mines, highlighting the benefits to local communities of mining jobs created and skills retained.
The Initial project is until the end of 2022 but is likely to be extended. Supply of equipment, refurbishment and parts are covered by a separate agreement between Sukari Mine and QME.
